Description

Ties that bind is the autobiography of a working class, Irish heritage kid growing up in London in the 1970s and 1980s and his journey into class politics, punk, football, squatting and later, rave culture.

This is a story of how inequality and the precariousness of working-class life can be turned into positive action by involvement in communities of action. Cregan’s journey through Punk and football culture led him to become a squatter, Hunt Saboteur and Anti-Fascist activist with Anti-Fascist-Action and No Platform but always with class politics at the centre of his worldview.

His experiences are portrayed here, with nothing held back, as his life charts a territory familiar to many who grew up in the era of Thatcher and then ca me through the Miners’ Strike, Poll Tax campaigns, the Spy Cops scandal, and the changing terrain of life in Britain from the 1970s to the present day.

This book is a great story of British life, the class system and its extreme inequalities but also one of courage, activism, love and community that left Sean with many ‘Ties that bind’.
