SUMMARY:Beezer Until Now: The Journey. Launch Party Ashton Court Mansion
DESCRIPTION:What: Beezer Until Now: The Journey. A Photographic Exhibition.\nWhen: Open to the Public from August 27th to September 10th 2026.\nWhere: Ashton Court Estate\, Long Ashton\, England\n\n\nLaunch Party:\nThursday 3rd of September.\n6.30PM to Midnight.\nDjs on the night:\nKRUST\nSupercharge Sound System\n@pmixx2000 ( Pete D) Si and Stu.\nFree Tickets available on EventBrite\nFrom Thursday August 27th until September 10th\, Ashton Court Mansion is hosting a Retrospective of the life’s work of Bristol born photographer Beezer\, “Until Now: The Journey”.\nAfter showing at The Farsight Gallery in London Tottenham Court Road\, and the currently running Exhibition “ The Music is Black” at The V&A East\, Beezer returns to Bristol where it all started\, kicking off his career as a photographer in the early 80s. \nTaking over three rooms of the Mansion’s ground floor\, the two Lounges\, the Music Room but also the Great Hall\, the exhibition covers iconic shots taken during gigs\, club nights\, political demonstrations\, alongside more candid stills of everyday people going about their life: an amalgamation of significant moments in time from different societal spheres\, blended together through Beezer’s lens\, bearing witness to our Cultural History. \nAs Beezer continues his journey\, relentlessly capturing the extraordinary in the mundane\, new images will be on show for the first time\, gracing the walls of this Grade I listed building\, a most important cultural landmark in its own right. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nTwo worlds colliding. Come together on the evening of Thursday 3rd of September\, from 6.30pm onwards\, for a celebration of Beezer’s body of work\, but also of the Bristol Community of DJs\, Streetwear and Vinyl Records Boutiques Owners\, and Soul Food Providers\, to make it a memorable night for us all.\nBeezer Until Now\, Volume 1\, A Life in Photos: 1982-1986\, in the shape of two books released through PC Press\, the Bristol DIY Publishing House\, will be available to acquire on the night\, including signed copies\, as well as other mementos of the event. \nA special mention to Michele Midwinter and Lottie Kennedy of the Ashton Court Mansion Events for their constant support of our work and by making\, with this exhibition at Ashton Court Mansion\, a reality of a dream. Also\, without the vision Norman Routledge had for Ashton Court Mansion\, none of this would have been possible. This is also\, in a way\, his legacy. \n  \n \nWhat a setting! For my Retrospective in a 700 year old Mansion just over the Suspension Bridge Bristol. Part of the Long Room Ashton Court Mansion.\nSee you all there\, Gonna be a roadblock!\nYou know how we roll..

SUMMARY:Adi Newton at KISMIF Conference 2026
DESCRIPTION:Adi Newton Joins the International Academic Conference on DIY Cultures\n \nFind Out More Here \nAdi Newton joins KISMIF 2026 in Porto as a keynote speaker.\nKISMIF (“Keep It Simple\, Make It Fast!”) is the international academic conference on DIY cultures\, held at the University of Porto.\n \nOn 8 July\, at Casa da Música (the Rem Koolhaas building)\, Adi will be in public conversation with sociologist Dr Pete Webb (PC Press) — tracing his path from The Future in 1977 and the founding of Clock DVA in 1978 through to today. A rare chance to hear one of the defining figures of industrial and experimental electronics in his own words. \nRizosfera & Armcomm Europe & PC Press at KISMIF 2026 — Adi Newton at Casa da Música\, Porto (PT)\nIt is with great pride that we announce our presence at KISMIF 2026\, the international conference on DIY cultures\, underground scenes and the thinking that runs through them — this year under the banner ‘DIY Cultures\, Global Uncertainty and Critical Imagination’. \nOn 8 July\, opening the conference on its very first day\, Rizosfera–NUKFM and PC Press present: \nAdi Newton (ClockDVA\, The Anti Group) in conversation with Peter Webb (PC-Press) on Life\, Art and Music.\nAnd we do so in a place that is itself a statement: Casa da Música\, designed by Rem Koolhaas and OMA\, inaugurated in 2005 for Porto’s year as European Capital of Culture and awarded the prestigious RIBA prize. A faceted monolith of white concrete that has become an icon of contemporary European architecture\, conceived to host every form of music — from classical to the most experimental electronic work. The perfect setting for a live dialogue with one of the most visionary and radical artists in electronic and industrial culture: almost fifty years of nonconformist sonic research\, from the Sheffield avant-garde to the present day. \nThe event also marks the presentation of Adi Newton: Second Sight\, the book by Paolo Bertoni\, published by PC Press (UK) and Rizosfera–NUKFM (worldwide): the fullest portrait yet of Adi Newton’s journey. \nCasa da Música\, Porto — 8 July 2026 \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Until Now: A Life In Pictures 1982 - 1986: Book Launch @ The Social
DESCRIPTION:A special book Launch event for ‘Until Now: A Life In Pictures 1982 – 1986 by Beezer’. Featuring images of Ari Up\, Mark Stewart\, Gil Scott Heron\, Pulp\, The WIld Bunch\, Glastonbury Festival\, WOMAD\, Notting Hill Carnival\, Lily Allen\, Andi Oliver and many more. Published by PC-Press in a lavish hardback editions\, also available in paperback these two books (Book Alpha and Book Beta) document the rise of DJ Culture\, street life\, subculture and life in 1980s Britain.\nBeezer will be in discussion with Siân Pattenden plus Ralph Moore will be reading from his book ‘On Tour: A Wild Ride in the Dance Music Press’. Afterwards there is a DJ set from Alex Turnball. \n‘Beezer is an amazing photographer and this collection of images shows that in beautiful detail. But also\, importantly\, he is a historian capturing vital but too often untold moments of our culture\, as they unfold before him.’ Neneh Cherry \n‘It’s just as important when someone behind the camera is actually part of that community. That’s a very\, very\, important thing\, those years (1982 – 1986) were very important in Bristol\, in the wild\, wild West as we call it\, because you need someone on the inside able to capture these great\, great moments. Beezer is that person. Inside Culture.’ Goldie  \n‘Seeing these pictures is like taking a deep dive into the deepest ocean of memories. Beezer has always had a way of being an intrinsic part of everything and at the same time he has always been possessed with an acutely observational forensic eye. Because he is also part of the energy\, his pictures have an intimacy that it is impossible to manufacture. His pictures are our shared truth\, our shared youth\, our shared joy and pain and loss and triumph.’ Andi Oliver \n  \nSIAN PATTENDEN \nSiân Pattenden is a writer and artist. At sixteen she was the youngest playwright at the Edinburgh Fringe festival and has since written for Smash Hits\, NME\, the Face\, Guardian\, Select\, and many many others. She has written and illustrated six children’s books\, which have been short-listed for many awards and has exhibited her artwork all over the UK.  She has a podcast with Pete Paphides and also sings in her band The Sha Sha Shanimals. \n  \nRALPH MOORE \nRalph Moore is an electronic music consultant\, broadcaster and now an author. From 2004-2024\, he was a senior editor at Mixmag\, where he wrote cover features with the likes of Bj÷rk\, Sven Võth and K÷lsch. \nOn Tour is Ralph Moore’s first book for Velocity Press and it mostly covers the golden era of print media’s hardcore focus on club culture\, when he worked as a full-time Editor for Muzik and later Mixmag. \nFor tickets\, visit: https://thesocial.seetickets.com/event/until-now-a-life-in-pictures-1982-1986/the-social/3517202

SUMMARY:PAULINE BLACK: A 2 TONE STORY Plus Q and A with Pauline in conversation with Pete Webb of PC-Press
DESCRIPTION:Doc’n’Roll Film Festival Presents:\nPauline Black\, lead singer of 2-Tone hit band The Selecter\, tells her extraordinary life story in the same frank manner that helped shape her as an iconic\, era-defining female musician.\nPauline had a difficult upbringing and joining the 2-Tone music movement in 1979 was the perfect catalyst; enabling her to explore and express all sides of herself.\nLooking back at her own ground-breaking experience in this feature documentary\, Pauline traces how her legacy came about and how it is relevant to the world today\, especially where society pushes the boundaries of gender\, politics\, race and identity. \nPauline\, of mixed Nigerian and Jewish heritage\, was adopted into a white family in Essex in the 50’s. Her upbringing was defined by casual racism from within her own family. Pauline went on to find her own identity in the Coventry 2-Tone music scene and The Selecter was a reflection of working-class life in Thatcher’s Britain\, their music as social reportage and with an ethos of anti-racism and anti-sexism.\nThis is a cinematic and visceral documentary mixing intimate actuality\, archive and interviews and a storming soundtrack. \nContributors include Arthur ‘Gaps’ Hendrickson\, Don Letts\, Skin\, Damon Albarn\, Rhoda Dakar\, Lynval Golding\, Mykaell Riley\, Sonia Boyce and Jools Holland. \nVanessa Lobon\nDirector & Co-Founder:\nDoc’n Roll FF\nDoc’n Roll TV\nwww.docnrollfestival.com \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nhttps://youtu.be/cbE_8IXYm00?si=FNeKVMIb93842ONF \nhttps://www.headfirstbristol.co.uk/whats-on/the-cube/tue-19-nov-pauline-black-a-2-tone-story-film-and-q-a-117282#e117282 \n

SUMMARY:Too Much Too Young: The Two Tone Story: Music\, Culture and Anti-Racism
DESCRIPTION:Film\, talks and discussion at the Cube Microplex\, Bristol.\nAuthor of Too Much\, Too Young: The 2 Tone Story discusses his book and the wider questions of music\, culture and anti-racism in conversation with Bristol Poet and educator at Cargo; Lawrence Hoo and Publisher\, Sociologist and Musician\, Pete Webb of PC-Press and UWE.\nBefore the discussion there will be a film showing of the BBC Arena programme on 2 Tone called Rudies Come Back.\nThursday 14th March – 7 – 11pm.\n£5 entry in advance.\nTICKETS:  https://www.headfirstbristol.co.uk/…/thu-14-mar-music…\nThis event is sponsored by PC-Press and Sociology at University of the West of England. \n  \n \nToo Much Too Young: The 2 Tone Records Story\nDaniel Rachel\nWhite Rabbit publish the definitive guide to the legendary 2 Tone Records written by the bestselling British author Daniel Rachel. Titled Too Much Too Young The 2 Tone Records Story : Rude Boys\, Racism and the Soundtrack of a Generation\, the book maps out the journey of one of the UK’s most influential record labels that became a movement that shook up the nation with its rebellious spirit\, fighting against the injustices in society and took the fight against the right wing extremism in the country. \nIn 1979\, 2 Tone exploded into the national consciousness as records by The Specials\, The Selecter\, Madness\, The Beat\, and The Bodysnatchers burst onto the charts and a youth movement was born. 2 Tone was black and white: a multi-racial force of British and Caribbean island musicians singing about social issues\, racism\, class and gender struggles. \nThe music of 2 Tone was exuberant: white youth learning to dance to the infectious rhythm of ska and reggae; and crossed with a punk attitude to create an original hybrid. The idea of 2 Tone was born in Coventry\, masterminded by a middle-class art student raised in the church. Jerry Dammers had a vision of an English Motown. \nBorrowing £700\, the label’s first record featured ‘Gangsters’ by The Specials’ backed by an instrumental track by the\, as yet\, unformed\, Selecter. Within two months the single was at number six in the national charts. Dammers signed Madness\, The Beat and The Bodysnatchers as a glut of successive hits propelled 2 Tone onto Top of the Pops and into the hearts and minds of a generation. However\, soon infighting amongst the bands and the pressures of running a label caused 2 Tone to bow to an inevitable weight of expectation and recrimination. \nStill under the auspices of Jerry Dammers\, 2 Tone entered in a new phase. Perhaps not as commercially successful as its 1979-1981 incarnation the label nevertheless continued to thrive for a further four years releasing a string of fresh signings and a stunning end-piece finale in ‘(Free) Nelson Mandela’. \nTold in three parts\, Too Much Too Young is the definitive story of a label that for a brief\, bright burning moment\, shaped British culture. \n  \nAuthor\, Daniel Rachel\, said: “As a child\, 2 Tone defined the way I saw the world. I was seduced by the off-beat rhythms\, the cool looking clothes and most importantly the social and political lyrics. 2 Tone taught me about black and white unity\, it gave a voice to the pointlessness of street violence\, and it provided an understanding and awareness of the horror of rape and apartheid. That you could dance\, look good and be educated by a record was incredible. This music and these bands have printed an indelible mark on my life. To write the story of 2 Tone is one of profound personal pride. But more so\, to honour one of the greatest periods in modern popular culture. 2 Tone at its heart was a movement of great songwriters\, musicians and songs – We danced and sang\, and the music played in a de boomtown!” \nPublisher\, Lee Brackstone said: “The music and the aesthetic of 2 Tone set the dial for the prevailing mood of the counterculture in the 1980s\, and we’re still feeling the aftershocks of the extraordinary achievements of the label four decades later. Through exhaustive interviews with the major artists and those associated with the label and deep research\, award-winning writer Daniel Rachel brings the story of 2 Tone to life: the joy of a uniquely creative moment which arguably did more than any other to challenge racism and class prejudice in Britain\, and in the process enlightened a whole generation of fans and created a catalogue of unparalleled quality. Essential reading.” \n  \nBirmingham-born Daniel Rachel is a former musician-turned-award-winning and bestselling author whose previous works include: Isle of Noises: Conversations with Great British Songwriters (a Guardian and NME Book of the Year)\, Walls Come Tumbling Down: the music & politics of Rock Against Racism\, 2 Tone and Red Wedge (winner of the Penderyn Music Book prize)\, Don’t Look Back in Anger: the Rise & Fall of Cool Britannia (An Evening Standard and Metro Book of the Year)\, The Lost Album of The Beatles: What if the Beatles hadn’t Split Up? Come and See the story of Laibach’s trip to Sarajevo during the Yugoslavian war where they issued passports to their Global State in Time\, in the Film: NSK STATE IN TIME \nAND the story of the development of a physical currency for the Global State as told by the authors – Charles Lewis and David K\, of the new book ‘FIAT: All money is ours’ by NSK State Reserve and published by Bristol based radical publisher PC-Press. \nWe are very proud to announce the launch of the book FIAT by NSK State Reserve – An art project about money\, currency\, what we will accept as an exchange medium and the idea of a global currency for a global state. \nCharles Lewis a member of NSK State and the Reserve discusses the book\, the art project and the concept of money and the use of relevant symbolism in the overprinting of old bank notes to create a global currency for a global virtual state! Confused? Came and join the discussion and see NSK State in Action\, plus videos about NSK and NSK state. \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rm5H0vuEk9o \n \n  \nNSK STATE – new publication FIAT\nWhen citizens of a virtual art-state took it upon themselves to create a new currency\, they chose a radically different direction than the blockchain coins currently in vogue. By appropriating not only the physical materials but also the functional aspects of the existing financial apparatus\, the principals of the NSK State Reserve extended the retro-avantgarde toolkit of the NSK State to bring the financial industry and its history into frame. This book reprints the notes and bonds created by The Reserve\, recounts key events from the history of this institution\, and offers direct insight into their process and principles. \nThis book showcases and discusses the idea of currency\, money\, art and what denotes a currency that we are happy to exchange and value. Each Hardback comes with a printed banknote with NSK artwork and an NSK Bond again printed with NSK FIAT artwork. The Paperback comes with the banknote. Each piece of currency is an artwork in itself and a former currency note or bond. \n174 pages on Art paper available in Hardback or Paperback \n\nHardback £25\nPaperback £20\n\nBuy the book here \n\nWhat is the NSK State?\nThe NSK State is a virtual global state. It is conceived as a utopian formation without physical territory and is not identified with any existing national State. It is inherently transnational and describes itself as “THE FIRST GLOBAL STATE OF THE UNIVERSE”. It issues passports to anyone prepared to identify with its founding principles\, and citizenship is open to all\, regardless of national\, sexual\, religious or other status. \n\nWhat is Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK)?\nNeue Slowenische Kunst was founded as a multi-disciplinary artistic collective in Ljubljana in 1984 as socialist Yugoslavia began to fracture. By the end of that decade\, the NSK groups had gained a reputation across Western Europe\, America and Japan. NSK’s works and actions have commented on many of the political events of the last two decades. NSK is now widely acknowledged to have played a vital role in the political and cultural history of Slovenia and former Yugoslavia\, even being credited with playing a role in the pluralisation of society and culture in 1980s Slovenia. \n\nWho created the NSK State?\nThe NSK State was created in 1992 by the groups comprising the Slovene arts collective Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK). These included Laibach\, IRWIN\, Noordung\, New Collectivism and the Department of Pure and Applied Philosophy. \nHere are two great and explanatory reviews: \n\nhttps://anticapitalistresistance.org/top-2023-books-fiat…/\nhttps://outsideleft.com/main.php?updateID=2886\n\n  \nNSK State website:\nhttps://nskstate.com/article/fiat-all-money-ours/ \n  \n

This led to the formation of various crews including the Wild Bunch who formed the nucleus of Massive Attack. \n\n\nThe book charts their rise out of communities of working- and middle-class kids from British families alongside Jamaican\, Irish\, Italian and Asian immigrants. Chemam retells this musical hybridity expertly through interviews with key Bristol musicians and scene stalwarts such as Mark Stewart of the Pop Group and the Maffia\, Jabulani Ngozi of Black Roots\, graffiti artist Inkie\, Ray Mighty of Smith and Mighty\, Tricky\, close collaborators of Massive such as Neil Davidge and others\, Martina Topley-Bird and members of Portishead\, Lupine Howl and Alpha. \n\n\nCentral to this book is the unfolding story of Massive Attack\, their art\, politics\, reflections on their own identity\, and the development of their astounding music\, loved all over the world. The work of the group’s creative driver Robert Del Naja is a key component of Chemam’s analysis\, written through many discussions conducted by the author in Bristol and further\, as well as through research into documentary sources. She details the making of their groundbreaking album Blue Lines\, as well as the impact of their followings records\, including Mezzanine. Key to the story are also the band’s unique collaborations\, with Horace Andy\, Shara Nelson\, Tracey Thorn\, Madonna\, Elizabeth Fraser\, Sinéad O’Connor\, Mos Def\, Damon Albarn\, Young Fathers\, Adam Curtis\, Banksy and many more. \n\nMelissa Chemam\n\nMelissa Chemam is a French journalist and author\, who has worked for France 24\, the BBC World Service and Radio France Internationale\, many magazines\, as well as for the filmmaker Raoul Peck. Since 2003\, she has been based in Prague\, Paris\, Miami\, London\, Nairobi and Bangui\, travelling to more than 40 countries.

SUMMARY:23rd April\, Ritzy Cinema\, Brixton\, London - book launch and film screening
DESCRIPTION:Marking 30 years since the 1984-5 miners’ strike\, DS30 is a political collage of sound and image. The film was originally commissioned as part of the ‘Extraction’ themed AV Festival in March 2014 and was set within the monumental structural lines of Dunston Staiths built on the River Tyne in 1893 to ship coal from the Durham coalfields to the world. Featuring footage of mining communities and industry along the River Tyne and of the wider mining community together with footage and sounds from Test Dept’s own archive related to the strike\, DS30 reflects on the group’s nationwide Fuel to Fight Tour in support of the miners\, during which they collaborated with local activists and mining communities. These included Kent miner Alan Sutcliffe\, who performed as writer and guest vocalist on live and recorded material and the South Wales Striking Miners’ Choir\, with whom they recorded the album ‘Shoulder to Shoulder’ to raise money for the Miners’ Hardship Fund. \nThis screening of DS30 is accompanied by a selection of archive material of the group on film and video which will be followed by a Q & A with founding members Graham Cunnington\, Angus Farquhar and Paul Jamrozy. \nThis event also celebrates the release of the book ‘Total State Machine’\, a major historical document and visual representation of Test Dept\, published by PC-Press. There will be a launch event following the screening. \nTest Dept formed in the decaying docklands of South London in late 1981. The group made raw\, visceral music out of re-purposed scrap metal and machinery scavenged from industrial waste-ground and derelict factories; a percussive sound with a political edge performed live against monumental slide and film projections in recently abandoned industrial spaces. Drilling\, pounding\, grinding\, metal bashing – a Constructivist/Futurist-inspired soundtrack to the death throes of industrial Britain. \nwww.testdept.org.uk
 www.pc-press.co.uk www.avfestival.co.uk
